Where teens like you come together to talk with (or just listen to) other teens about issues facing youth, and about life, in general. Each week is a different topic (they range from family issues and school violence to health tips and stress relief). You can come as many or as few weeks as you like. There's no sign-up or registration and it's free. We only ask that you arrive before 7:30p, (we don't allow anyone in after then), stay 'til 9p, and that you respect our guidelines.
"One person speaks at a time" - everyone deserves the same respect and everyone deserves to be heard. "What's said at The Bridge, stays at The Bridge" - this helps everyone feel confident in sharing with the group. "No put downs" - sometimes, in our society, people think it's ok to laugh at other people. We don't allow that at The Bridge. We give everyone the opportunity to speak in a safe environment, without fear of being made fun of. These guidelines help to give us all the chance to share feelings and experiences about relationships, sexuality, communication, peer pressures, substance abuse, and teen suicide – to name a few. Sometimes, there are videos, guest speakers, role playing, or art activities that help us to better understand the topic.
There are no desks, tables, or chairs – we meet in a comfortable living room setting. Teens run the group and it’s their input and suggestions that are used in planning the activities. The Bridge gives teens like you a chance to meet others of the same age, from different areas and backgrounds. The atmosphere is very relaxed and each week is interesting and fun. Youth from all over the area have been coming to The Bridge for almost 3 decades, chances are, you already know someone who's been to The Bridge! Here's the info, we hope to see you there!
